Presentation Title
Advanced Geothermal Systems: Sovereign Baseload Heat for Switzerland
Synopsis
Switzerland must decarbonize heat while expanding electricity supply and managing a persistent winter energy gap. AGS (deep closed-loop geothermal systems) provide domestic, fuel-free baseload heat without drawing on scarce winter electricity. Water circulates through sealed boreholes, recovering ubiquitous heat from hot rock by conduction. AGS deliver predictable performance without finding or creating a reservoir, sharply reducing geological and seismic risks. Thermosiphon-driven circulation minimizes pumping and electricity consumption, while the sealed loop limits scaling and corrosion significantly reducing OPEX. Built with proven drilling technology, AGS can start with simple installations and scale as experience grows through deeper and longer laterals, turning oil and gas capabilities into renewable infrastructure that supplies heat for generations.

Speaker Biography
Naomi Vouillamoz co-founded Earth Power Systems (EAPOSYS SA) in 2017 and has since pioneered patented Advanced Geothermal Systems that deliver safe, reliable and durable baseload heat and power at community scale. She is CEO of EAPOSYS and its Swiss joint venture, SwissDGS GmbH, leading AGS technology development and implementation in Switzerland. She holds a PhD in Environmental Geophysics and an MSc in Structural Geology, with more than 20 years of experience in applied geoscience and geo-environmental projects. Naomi is a strong advocate for a fair, science-based phase-out of fossil fuels through practical collaboration among public institutions, industry and investors.
